Fiji Mermaid

Story:   A bird is hatched and flies to the coast.  The bird flies down the coast at midnight, as the waves shimmer far below.  The bird flies inland to the suburbs, and meets a little boy/girl.  Then the bird flies to a mountaintop.  The bird flies to the city, and seeks shelter when it rains.  The bird flies to the forest and dreams.  The bird meets up with another bird.

Complete Lyrics and Narration

Birds Dream

Birds dream, birds dream (repeat)
And they dream so far from home
They dream so far from home
They haven’t had the run-around out of home
Birds dream, birds dream (repeat)

They dream so far from home (repeat)
Their/They're home

Birds dream, birds dream (repeat)

Narration: This is a story about a bird that was hatched
In the Pacific Northwest in California
The bird was white and grey, with some blue, and a yellow crest
One of the first things the bird did, after it left the nest
Was to fly west to the coast

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Flying to the Coast

Flying to the coast, got to get away
Flying to the coast, got to go today
(repeat)

And now, we’re almost there
(We're there!)

Chorus  Ah

A day upon the coast is just a day
A day for waves, a day for fish
And, a day
A day for sun, sun, sun, sun

Chorus  Ah

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Night Flight

Midnight to go (repeat)
Night
Midnight to go (repeat)
Dawn

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Narration:  The bird flew way into the suburbs, and found --
He got away from the coast, and flew to the suburbs
Where he met up with a little boy
Or a little girl.  It was kind of hard to tell which
And this little being told the bird about a little dog
Their pet doggie
And so the boy told the bird something like this
Or the girl

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Cute Little Dog

Whether it's a sunny or a rainy day
Determines how the children will find their play
But we've got a dog and it goes its way

And where it goes, I don't know (repeat)
Chorus     Cute little dog, feed it dog food

Sometimes its paws are very dirty
And it makes a mess indoors
There are fewer cats than when we first moved here
I'm fairly sure
But
When the night falls, we let it inside
We keep it from the cold and keep it dry
So the next day s/he can go outside

And where it goes, I don't know  (repeat)
Chorus    Cute little dog, feed it dog food

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Narration:  Next the bird flew past the little boy, and up to a mountaintop
Where a woman was sitting on a rock
And she was singing a sad song
She was singing a song about her boyfriend
And how she couldn't quite get to him
None of the things she could say were quite the right thing
So the bird stopped to listen to her song

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Loneliness is a Fractal for the Universe

Ice-cream colored candy skies
Yellow moons flash in your eyes
Clown-colored clouds that filter though
All those things you have to do

Chorus    Loneliness is a fractal for the universe
The universe, we could reverse

Ice-cream colored candy skies
Yellow moons flash in your eyes
Pink-colored clouds and weeping fronds
We bring for your jump beyond

Chorus   Loneliness is a fractal....

And I'm leaving you much too soon
I know now

In solitude we do consume
Stretching our niche to a room
Consumer wonderlands we try
We're on acid, 'till we buy

Chorus   Loneliness is a fractal for the universe
The universe, we could reverse

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Narration:  Next the bird flew to the city

And saw two other birds, pecking on the ground

The wind lifted them up, and then set them back down

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Bird, Bird

Bird bird, bird bird (repeat)

Ahhhhh    (repeat)

That one is brown

And that one is red

And that one is brown

And that one is red

Bird bird, bird bird (repeat)

Ahhhhh   (repeat)

Then a cat, it comes near

And the birds, the birds they scatter in fear-fear-fear-fear-fear-fear

Fear-fear-fear-fear-fear

‘Till the coast is clear

Bird bird, bird bird (repeat)

Ahhhhh   (repeat)

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Bang Bang Boys

Bang-bang boys, go go girls (repeat)

They think they get it right

They think they get it right

Bang-bang boys, go go girls (repeat)

Meditate, recreate  (repeat)

Bang-bang boys, go go girls  (repeat)

Narration:  Now the sky became angry -- became unsettled
It looked like it was about to rain
Cars started moving faster, it soon became very crowded with traffic
And then it started raining
Wind was rising off the hills
But it swept through the streets even faster
And the bird went under a tree to keep out of the rain
And there were only regular sounds going
And the rain was going.  Just a few sounds

translation:  The flowers that make the faces are falling all around the world
                    And they hide themselves
When the cold winter wind comes
The little birds in winter who are so cold
                    Don't have any seed

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Narration:  Next the bird flew inland to the forest

He fell asleep in a tree and dreamed of a gigantic tree, Irminsul,

That was holding up the whole world

He dreamed of this gigantic tree

Right in the center of the forest

The next morning, the bird woke up

Narration:  Next the bird met up with another bird in the clouds

Who told him about a bird who had flown to the sun

And the bird said, really, the most important thing for you to know

Is that you were born

The bird didn’t really want to fly to the sun

He hoped he would find Irminsul, some day

But for now he stayed with his friend, and they both

Tried to fly to the sun

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

He Flew to the Sun

Didn’t want to go at night

Where the people sit and fight

Didn’t want to go out there

Tearing out each other’s hair

Uh oh ohh….  (repeat)

Left a trail up to the sun

Thought he’d be the only one

Found some other people there

Brushing out each other’s hair

Chorus  He flew to the sun (repeat)

If you go out at night

See the trail he left in flight

If you look into the air

Find some other places there (repeat)

Uh oh ohh……  (repeat)

(repeat verse)

He said it would be okay

Sushi places always stay

By that which you wrap in leaves

May you still remember me

Chorus  He flew to the sun (repeat)

To the, to the sun

Other album lyrics -- Lyrics from the album "Green Pond"

The Light Across the Sea

The light across the sea

Is moving and won't stay long

The light across the sea

Is burning and it's so strong

The light across the sea

Might go again, and won't find it

So you'll find amidst the trees

Someplace where you would have nothing

Ah hah hum

The light crosses through the trees

To Mill Valley to live

The light, it turns into breeze

And we'll find it somewhere

You'll see

Ah hah hum

If You Were in... the Same Circumstances

The wax was in the shoe

The sun came loose inside

The day became an age

And left the time beside

I knew you'd feel apart

(Chorus) If you were in

If you were in

If you were in the same circumstances

You might do the same

You might do the same

You might do the same

(repeat)

The moon could not decide

What part to play for all

The weather had no nose

The hallway had to fall

Those fingers fell apart

I thought you had a shoe

That fit below your knee

Ascended almost gone

The wax was in the sea

I knew you'd see the end

(Cho.)If you were in...

You showed me how you'd take

Your eyes above your ears

And all the numbers felt

They sat behind the shears

Those fingers fell apart

She didn't ask you for too much

She didn't ask you for too much

She didn't ask you for the world

She didn't take too much for granted

To save her golden hair  (repeat)

She didn't ask you for the world

She didn't have the time to spend

She just wanted what was there

To save her golden hair (repeat)

And couldn't you not blame her

For all the care she took

If she'd been outside looking in

She'd re-write all your books

She played your game so fair

To save her golden hair

And she would walk in your direction

She would launder your wallpaper

She would polish your furniture

Then take a hand and show her hair

But something inside, it couldn't reach her

Maybe each day it grew afar

Something was reaching closer to her

To save her golden hair  (repeat)

And couldn't you not blame her

For all the care she took

If she'd been outside looking in

She'd re-write all your books

To save her golden hair...

We Are Not the Sun

(Cho.) We are not the sun  (repeat)

The sun sits there, we orbit

The sun sits there, we spin

(Cho.) We are not the sun  (repeat)

The sun is our energy metaphor

No one can claim the sun

As a scientist, toss the sun off my lip

All energy that comes here is consumed

Only by us

We are not the sun, we simply use all energy

That comes

From the sun

(Cho.) We are not the sun   (repeat)

Like an Egg

That place I go...

Oh, you'll say hello (repeat)

As you walk on by

Through caverns, streets and skies

Through elevators' lies

Oh, to that place I know

Where the streets are empty

Just carnival doors

And dolls they keep inside

They want me to pass on by

But they want something more inside

It's like an egg, it goes high (repeat)

Oh, you'll say hello as you

Walk on by

Cho.  It's like an egg, it goes high (repeat)

So high, so high in the sky (repeat)

And when the street lamps are low

And all the orange glow

The carnival changes sides

And they line up for their dinner in the light

It's like an egg, it goes high (repeat)

Oh, I'm back in the carnival show

Where no-one's watching

Just the carnival row, with doors

And dolls inside

Could be I know

But I've got to go

Cho. It's like an egg, it goes high (repeat)

So high, so high in the sky (repeat)

I Had a Little Piggie, But I Didn't Know How Clean

I had a little piggie, but I didn't know how clean

I washed that little piggie till its fur did fairly gleam

Lisa Lights Candles

Lisa lights candles for every boy

Lisa lights candles for every boy

They think they can find Lisa there inside

Lisa lights a candle, then she runs and hides

Will they know when they see her?

Will they know when they find her?

Will they know just to meet her

But it's too soon, to tell

Lisa lights candles for every boy (repeat)

They think they can find Lisa there inside

Lisa lights a candle, then she runs and hides, hides, hides

Snowman, You're Resting

Snowman you're

Snowman you're

Snowman you're

Resting awhile

(repeat)

Chorus    You keep books in two colors

And all your sheets are white

          A thousand-candle fireplace

          A kitchen light

Snowman you're resting awhile...

I put each glass just where it would be

Shining in moonlight

We know it's cold outside but you're

Inside tonight

Snowman you're resting awhile...

And everyone sees through you

Although you're made of snow

Or meets you in the grass somewhere down

Far below, while, while, while, while

Snowman you're resting awhile

Snowman, you're resting

random note.  I remember my French teacher really stressing "bise" when she

would recite this poem for the class.... saying, "Quand la

Beeeeeeeezuh fooo venoooo," in a howling tone.  Like the howling

winter wind.
